Magic Johnson group to buy Dodgers for $2 billion

Do you believe in Magic? For $ 2150000000 dollars surprisingly, the number who decided Tuesday night, Frank McCourt believes. That's how much it will cost the Los Angeles Dodgers Magic Johnson's group, the Wall Street Journal reported. Consortium Johnson beat two other people - which include St Louis Rams owner Stan Kroenke, and another that includes billionaire Steve Cohen and former major league manager Tony La Russa.

The number of records for the major league team will top $ 845 billion paid in 2010 for the Ricketts family of Chicago Cubs and most importantly for fans of the Dodgers, McCourt will take the Dodgers out of the loop after eight years of ownership. McCourt bought the franchise for $ 430 million but took in a bankruptcy. Well, he's not going to go bankrupt again after the deal closed.

Johnson plans a press conference Wednesday in New York (but it's highly unlikely that he move back to the Brooklyn Dodgers).

Most of the money to buy the team will not come from Johnson himself, but from a company called Baseball Guggenheim Partners, which CEO Mark Walter. Baseball operations will be headed by Stan Kasten, who used to be the president of the Washington Nationals and, more successfully before, Atlanta Braves.

So the Dodgers fans can rejoice that this nightmare ends McCourt, and therefore the Magic to the rescue.
