The statistics revealed he often tried and succeeded in getting that extra meter after he led the nation in yards after contact in 2011, his junior season.
He is listed at 5-9, but he said he is 5-10, but Wilson assured that he "plays bigger than what his statistics say" when asked for a scouting report of themselves. Primarily a kick returner his first two seasons - a role he said he can take on the NFL level - because he was buried behind future NFL players Ryan Williams and Darren Evans on the depth chart, Wilson burst onto the national scene with a school-record 1,709 meters last season. He was later named MVP ACC, ACC Offensive Player of the Year and a second-team All-American.
"I never step back from when I first started playing football took," he said. "It's always excel, excel every year and getting better and better. I am a student of the game and that's a good thing out there."
Known for his speed after doubling as a track star at Virginia Tech, the concern about Wilson, the Giants had ranked as the No. 2 running back on their plate back Trent Richardson, post in the design were safety ball - he had seven fumbles last season - and only protection.
"I am getting better and more physical," Wilson said when asked about the pass protection. "I want Eli [Manning] to protect."
The questions were enough to give him a second-round possibility and he was aware of it.
"I was certainly hoping for the first round and I knew it was a small chance that it was possible, but it was not like I'm a top-10 pick or whatever so it was a small chance I was going to the first round, "he said.
But he has to go in the first 32 and went with Brandon Jacobs and Ahmad Bradshaw constantly battling a foot injury, Wilson acknowledges that there is a chance for him to intervene and contribute as a rookie.
"Ahmad Bradshaw is there for a while and he has his position pretty well," he said. "Coming up there, I'm looking forward to compete with him and we both will be making plays and making the team better.
The Giants are "a special team and come in and with the possibility at some point to contribute during the season, whether right away or here and there when I get my chance to do what I'm going to to observe and try to make a name for myself. "
