The Board of Governors of the NHL has unanimously approved the commissioner Gary Bettman plan realignment conference Monday night, there was always a team in Winnipeg and not Atlanta. Instead of the current Eastern and Western conferences, there will be four starts next season.
Two conferences will include eight teams, and two others seven. The Hawks will be a conference with the Columbus Blue Jackets, Dallas Stars, Detroit Red Wings, Minnesota Wild, Nashville Predators, the St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets.
The top four teams from each conference qualify for the playoffs, which will then bring division matchups. The four champions of the respective conference met in the third round of the playoffs, where the winners play for the Stanley Cup.
The Red Wings, one of two teams zone from east to west, had pushed for a move to the Eastern Conference in the old alignment. The Hawks and Wings will continue their rivalry. Keep an eight-team conference, such as the Hawks will play every five or six times per season.
"We certainly, as the rivalry, and we would not lose that in a perfect world," Stan Bowman, general manager said recently.
Under the new format, all teams play outside all the teams in the conference twice a year.
Take it Backes
Daniel Carcillo has played except by the St. Louis Blues forward David Backes, who fought with the center Jonathan Toews, on Saturday.
"You look at the guys he fought in this league," Carcillo said Monday. "It's a great guy and it is difficult, but it has not really answered the bell with some tough guys. He goes after guys like Perry [Corey] and try to fight against Jonathan Toews. You can not let it happen. "
Carcillo has played with Toews and Patrick Kane for the first time the Blues Scrappy, drawing positive reviews. But he was beaten by Viktor Stalberg half of Monday's game against the Phoenix Coyotes.
